World Days Against the Death Penalty

October 10th: World Day Against the Death Penalty

The annual World Day Against the Death Penalty, initiated by the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty (WCADP), takes place on October 10th. The German Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, in cooperation with WCADP, regularly participates in selected activities to draw attention to the various problems associated with the death penalty.

In 2020, the World Day was dedicated to the legal aspect of those sentenced to death and the need for effective legal defense under the motto “Access to counsel: A matter of life or death”.

On the occasion of World Day 2020, the German Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty has given copies of the book Leben im Todestrakt – Life in Death Row” with contributions by death row inmates to libraries, school libraries, world stores, etc., which was also published two years earlier as part of World Day.
