Texas: Garcia Glen White executed – acts committed under drug addiction

On Tuesday evening, 61-year-old Garcia Glen White was executed by lethal injection, an overdose of pentobarbital, in Huntsville in the US state of Texas.

Although responsible for a total of five homicides, he was only sentenced to death for the murder of three of his victims: in 1989, he stabbed a mother and her 16-year-old identical twins to death during an argument.

White was a football star until an injury ruined his career. Another injury cost him his job and eventually a drug addiction took over his life.

He had been using crack cocaine with the twins’ mother before the fatal argument, in which the woman initially reached for the knife.

Friends and family members unanimously stated that “Big White” was a gentle and non-violent person before his drug addiction and only changed so much with the addiction.

“I’m sorry, and I pray that you can find peace, comfort and closure in your heart for the wrong I’ve done and the pain I’ve caused you and everyone else,” White said as he was strapped to the execution couch.

White’s final words were filled with remorse, thanksgiving and prayers, including prayers for the prison administration, the guards and his fellow inmates.

White’s attorney for 26 years, Patrick McCann, expressed his shock. During his years in prison, White had transformed himself back into the lovable person he was before his drug addiction. He even saved the life of a fellow inmate.
